It is with considerable regret that we the BRFC Committee, have had to take the step of cancelling tomorrow’s (Saturday) opening of the Club for hospitality and watching of the European Rugby Final. As you will appreciate we are currently being extremely vigilant about the way the Club operates in light of the increased number of new infections of corona virus both nationally, and locally.

To this end we have been made aware that two persons that attended the Club last Saturday (10th October) have since tested positive for the virus. Whilst we have no reason to suspect that either of these individuals were infective at the time (last Saturday), nor took part in any behaviour that would have put any other attendees at risk, we have decided that in the interests of safety and public duty, we cannot open the Club tomorrow.

I want to stress that this is just precautionary action. Should there be any possibility that others who were at the the Club last Saturday became exposed to an infected person, then either ‘NHS Track & Trace’ will directly contact you, or if you have the NHS COVID-19 App on your smartphone you will receive an alert which would instruct you to self-isolate. We believe that the likelihood of anyone else at the Club last Saturday being infected is very low – and is testament to the professional way in which Jackie Edwards is managing an extremely challenging period for the Club and its hospitality.

In these extremely trying times, we at Barnstaple RFC take our responsibilities very seriously, and we hope that you understand why we have taken this decision to cancel the event – we do not do it lightly.

Good luck to Exeter tomorrow’s game.
