Barnstaple Rugby Football Club

Lockdown Statement – 3rd November 2020

Further to the Government announcement regarding the introduction of a national lockdown in England from Thursday 5th November through to Wednesday 2nd December, the club’s COVID committee has been reviewing the current advice available on the official Government and RFU websites to inform the clubs position during this time. As a result of this review the decision has been made to fully closedown the clubhouse and grounds during the lockdown period except for essential maintenance.

The clubhouse – will be closed to all bar a number of designated volunteers who will visit the club each week to carryout essential equipment checks and to ensure security of the premises is maintained. Club meetings will be held via digital conferencing platforms (Zoom).

The grounds – All planned maintenance work will cease with the exception of weekly grass cutting which will be managed by the head grounds person.

Playing/Training – All training at the club will be paused during this time. The pitches may be utilised for individual daily fitness to those who abide by Government lockdown guidelines.

It is clear that there will be mixed views regarding this decision, particularly amongst our valued group of volunteers who take great pride in maintaining the fantastic facilities, but this difficult decision reflects the current Government guidance and ultimately seeks to protect players, members, volunteers and the wider community during this extraordinary time.

We wish to thank you all for your continued support and commitment to Barnstaple Rugby Club and hope that you understand the rationale behind this decision. Please also remember that these restrictions are being put in place for a short period and with any luck we will be able to meet at the club for a Christmas beer.
