Hi and welcome back folks to the latest update with just 6 weeks until the first game of the season. That is less than 2 months before we get to enjoy our rugby season all over again, when we welcome Weston Super Mare to our hallowed turf. Of course, there is plenty going on between then and now, including pre-season friendlies memberships, where I will give you a full update, including a new exciting scheme that is going to be offered including discounts for rugby club members at certain local businesses, so your membership is going to be worth even more, but more on that later. We also have the Buccs and Colts fixtures up on the website and there is a little international tournament taking place as well as you all know, the Rugby World Cup and we will be letting you know what games will be shown live in the clubhouse and what unique offers will be on offer. Finally before we get into the blog itself Barnstaple Rugby would like to express its utmost appreciation and thanks to the Barnstaple old boys Secondary Modern school reunion and its organisers Gerald Thorne, Tony Freeman and Derek Parnell, who have raised over £350 for the club during their annual school reunion which took place in June this year.

We begin today with the unfortunate news that due to tragic circumstances Stourbridge will not be visiting Barnstaple on the 5th of August for a club wide festival of rugby. With the terrible news from Stourbridge of the loss of two of their valued members. Iain Hughes aged 42 who went missing attempting to swim the English Channel and Jake Morris who passed away recently after a sudden illness aged just 30, it is understandable that Stourbridge would want to take the time to heal from such losses. Barnstaple Rugby’s thoughts and sympathies are with their respective families, friends and the wider Stourbridge rugby community during this sad time.

The new memberships for 2023/24 season are now live and ready for you to grab with eager anticipation for the coming season and we have some exciting news on that front. Firstly, to make it a more streamlined membership we have decided to remove several layers and there is now just one membership plan for Barnstaple rugby which is simply a FULL MEMBERSHIP and will last from 1st August 2023 to 31st July 2024. We have also introduced a heavily discounted Married Couples Membership. The prices are as follows:

  • Married Couples Membership (2 x Full Memberships) – £170
  • Senior Player Membership (Full Membership and eligible for selection) – £130

In addition to the usual benefits we always have, there is also a Barnstaple Members Scheme which on producing your card a certain local business you will get a discount on your purchases. So far these are the businesses that have signed up to the scheme and we are incredibly pleased to welcome them to our rugby community

  • BeerMatters at 7 Tuly Street – Ask (Simon or his team) for discount when you are there.

There are more hopefully on the way but a great start to the Scheme and I’m sure will grow stronger with each season. Don’t forget the other benefits of becoming a member with the following.
