Evening folks and welcome back to what will be a much shorter blog post as we enter the final weekend of pre-season matches. This weekend at Pottington Road we have a great game for you as the Colts welcome Bude Colts for an entertaining 80 minutes of passionate rugby. Kick off is 2pm for that one.
The Chiefs and Athletic are going their separate ways this time with Athletic playing against Tiverton this evening under the lights.
This should be a real test for the 2nd XV as Tiverton were promoted from Counties 1 last season as champions and are playing in Regional 2, level 6 rugby.
A good performance tonight will give the Tic’s all the confidence they could desire going into their first ever level 7 rugby match next weekend at Pottington Road. Kick off will be 2.30 as Athletic take on Pirates Amateurs in a really tough opening clash for the Tic’s as they take on last season’s 5th placed team.
It would be fabulous to have a full house of spectators for that game and become Athletics 16th player just as we do for the Chiefs, so let’s see you all down for this one. Remember if you are a member it is free entry and if not it is just £5 to watch quality rugby.
As for the Chiefs they also have a real stern test which should stand them in good stead when they travel to St Austell next weekend.
This Saturday they travel to 12th placed National two west side Hornets. A good performance here will, as for the Tics, boost that confidence level for the Chiefs as they have three tough openers to start the season with.
As mentioned they are off to St. Austell next weekend then a trip to Brixham, who I’m assured are looking to mount a challenge for the title this season and they were a tough cookie at home last time.
Then it’s back home on 21st September against another of the challengers for the Regional 1 title,Chew Valley and we know how difficult an opponent they are.
As for today it’s the Colts who are going to entertain us and the squad is looking hungry for success this time around. With head coach Lewis Joce joined this season by Cookie, Mikey Nott and Jeremy Chugg, it is looking to be a cracker of a season ahead. Saturday’s game against Bude as I’ve said is a 2pm kick off and here is the team with their sponsors.
There are still players looking for sponsorship so if you want to promote your company with weekly mentions on the team sheet and also help develop the future Barnstaple senior squad here’s your chance. Email info.barnstaplerugby@gmail.com for details
