Good evening everyone, the wait is finally over, as we eagerly await the highly anticipated return of weekly blog posts as we inch ever so much closer to the start of the season. What a season it is shaping up to be as well, which kicks off with Barnstaple Athletic at home on September 7th to play their very first Tier 7 rugby match against Pirates Amateurs here at Pottington Road at 2.30pm. Remember at this level, with the exception of Redruth 2nd XV which in itself shows the quality of this league, the Tics will be playing 1st XV teams throughout the season. Let’s get the biggest crowd the Tics have ever seen to cheer them on, it is going to be a massive game.
Before we begin with the rest of the blog we here at the blog would firstly like to Congratulate Chiefs head coach Winston James and wife Tia on the arrival of their beautiful son, George, who came into the world on August 14th at 8pm, weighing a healthy 8 pounds and 4 ounces!
All of us here at the club wish you all the best as you begin this wonderful journey of parenthood and enjoy every moment as it won’t be long before George is scrummaging with the best of them
WEEK 2
The Chiefs had a solid preseason outing against newly promoted National 2 West team Devonport Services, shaking off any rust and looking fit and ready to go. The squad created some nice plays, with the new additions fitting in well. If the Chiefs and Athletic continue to improve from day one, fans can look forward to some memorable games this winter season.
The team appears to be in good shape heading into the final two weeks before the season kicks off. This match was a great opportunity to evaluate the squad with the team looking sharp and the new talent integrating seamlessly, there is reason for optimism that both the Chiefs and Athletic will be competitive right out of the gate
Supporters will have to stay tuned to see if the Chiefs and Athletic can deliver an exciting season full of memorable matches. Last weekends result suggests the team is on the right track, but the real test begins in just two weeks when the games start to count. With the squad looking fit and the new players already making an impact, the future is bright for the Chiefs and Athletic
This weekend the Chiefs welcome Camberley RFC to Pottington Road and please note the change in kick off time to 3pm, so you can all have a longer lie-in, although we do have Chicken and Mushroom pie with potatoes and veg accompanied with a pint or glass of wine for just £10.
This will again be a good examination for the coaches to see where the senior squad is heading as Camberley were very much our equals as last season they were also runners up in Regional 1 South Central. Next weekend the Chiefs travel to Hornets for their final challenge against the 12th placed team in National League 2 West last season providing a final opportunity to refine their skills and sharpen their competitive edge.
As for Athletic, as well as their squad getting playing time with the Chiefs against Devonport and Camberley this weekend, they travel to newly promoted Tier 6 team Tiverton next Friday the 30th for an examination of where they sit going into the season, which should stand them in good stead for the coming season.
The Colts have a couple of cracking games before their season starts including a trip to Crediton this weekend and then a home game against Bude Colts here at Pottington Road next weekend the 31st and I encourage all of you to come down to the club for this one, head coach Lewis Joce has some good vibes about his squad going into the start of the season.
Well that’s it from the playing front for the next couple of weeks.
